Despacito is a hit song from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi along with Daddy Yankee was released in the year 2017. The song became the number streaming music of that period within six months. It's a blend of reggaeton and pop that has not only attracted new attention to reggaeton, but also the popularity of Latin music. In 2015 there were two mostly Spanish-language songs on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017, however, 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100, and in 2020 the number of songs that made it was 41. When Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, well-known musicians began to join forces with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together on MIA (2018) in addition to Madonna and Maluma collaborated on Medellin and Medellin in 2019 In 2020, a few Reggaeton artists were complaining about the direction of the genre toward mainstream. Yet, a newer generation, Rauw Alejandro, was keen to continue the evolution. In his music, he often used elements from electronic dance music as well as other genres.
